PEDIGREE ENGINE HELP Entering The Database
The Heavens Pedigree Engine provides access to a database holding information on several thousand Welsh Springer Spaniels. The Pedigree Engine is activated by entering some part of a dog's name and then pressing the Search button.

The entered name can be in either upper or lower case and can be as little as three characters long. In addition to a dog's name, the search name can also be a dog's call name or registration number (but only on a Pedigree search and only when these items have not been excluded).
The match list is created and displayed in one of two formats, by either Pedigree (names matching the entered name along with parents) or Progeny (names matching the entered name along with offspring).
The match results may be sorted by name of offspring, birthdate, sire name, or dam name.
Options are also provided to omit or exclude certain data items on the created display. Select these items only if you do not want them to appear on the list.
If the search fails, match hints are offered to increase the chance for success on the next search.
If the search is successful, a list is displayed of all names in the database that match the entered name.

Moving Through The Database
Once a list of names has been displayed, navigation arrows next to the dog names may be clicked to display either a Progeny Report ( << ) or a three-generation Pedigree Tree ( >> ) for the dog. If no left arrow is present, the dog has no children in the database. If no right arrow is present, the dog has no parents in the database.

Simply by clicking on left and right arrows for successive dogs, Welsh bloodlines can be easily followed through the database. Think of the left arrow ( << ) as pointing down, to the left, toward children in the database. Think of the right arrow ( >> ) as pointing up, to the right, toward parents in the database.

Additional Reports
Once a dog name has been established, either by being the first name in a Pedigree or Progeny list or having been selected for a Progeny report or a Pedigree tree display, a link to Reports becomes available. The Reports page allows additional reports to be generated for the selected dog, including a four-generation Pedigree tree. Many of the reports may be generated without navigation arrows so that they can be more easily printed. Options are also provided to omit or exclude additional information as desired.
